As the world is facing its first pandemic in more than a century, America’s doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals are rushing to the front lines to battle an unseen enemy. Clinical healthcare workers, as well as our first responders, are getting well-deserved praise for bravely and expertly protecting patients against COVID-19.
We at Covelo Group thank our doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers for their courage and determination to fight this disease. We would also like to recognize a group of unsung heroes: hospital environmental services (EVS) professionals.
Commonly referred to as custodians or janitors, hospital EVS staff serve a critical role in protecting patients and healthcare providers against infection. While methodically cleaning and sanitizing healthcare facilities is always essential, it is never more crucially important than during a healthcare crisis. They, too, are on the frontlines of this pandemic. We need them now, more than ever, to do their part to keep our hospitals operating safely.
Covelo Group has seen a sharp increase in demand for EVS janitor jobs among our Bay Area hospital partners. UCSF Medical Center, Stanford Medical Center, and other reputable hospitals around San Francisco are growing their janitorial teams to keep their facilities clean and safe for patients and staff. We’re partnering with them to help meet that swelling demand.
Immediate Employment
Working in environmental services is a fantastic way to get a foot in the door at some of the country’s top hospitals. And, at a time where shelter-in-place orders are leaving so many hard-working Americans furloughed or unemployed, hospital janitor jobs can be a great opportunity. Hospital employees are considered essential workers under governmental regulations, and current demand for hospital staff means you’ll be interviewed and placed on the job as quickly as possible.
Most healthcare facilities need janitorial staff around the clock, during first, second and third shifts. Flexible hours are a great option for people who need to balance their work schedule along with higher education goals or family responsibilities at home.
High Wages and Health Benefits
EVS workers in Bay Area hospitals can earn an entry-level starting wage of more than $20 per hour. Prior housekeeping or hospital experience could make you eligible for even higher wages. Since Covelo Group hires on a temp-to-perm basis, our placements for janitor jobs are made with the end goal of permanent, full-time employment. Once you transition from an hourly worker to a full-time employee with the hospital, you can expect your starting wage to increase by more than 30 percent on day one.
And, our hospital partners are known for offering top-notch employee benefits packages. After 30 days of full-time hospital employment, you’ll be eligible for comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental and vision insurance.
Job Requirements
While previous janitorial experience is always welcome, Covelo happily accepts entry-level applicants. If you are at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma (or equivalent), and are authorized to work in the U.S., we encourage you to apply. Physical stamina and access to reliable transportation are also required.
Once you’re hired, you’ll be trained by an experienced supervisor according to hospital standards. Your typical day will involve cleaning and sanitizing offices, hallways, lobbies, restrooms, and patient rooms; replacing used linens; emptying trash receptacles; and maintaining cleaning supply inventory.
Covelo can match you with a janitor job or housekeeping position in some of the best medical centers in the country. To take the next step toward a career in environmental services, head to our EVS jobs page or call 415-421-1832.
