One positive effect of any healthcare crisis is how frequently we’re reminded of the sacrifices made by hospital workers to protect their communities. Lately, we’ve heard a lot about the bravery of the frontline workers in healthcare. At Covelo Group, we also like to recognize the backline workers who support doctors and nurses on a daily basis.
This week, we’re celebrating National Healthcare Environmental Services (EVS) Week in honor of these behind-the-scenes heroes who keep our healthcare facilities running smoothly. The health and safety of patients and healthcare workers directly depend on EVS teams consistently performing their jobs well. This week, and every week, we say “thank you” to our teams of top-notch EVS workers.
Environmental Techs
Also known as hospital janitors or custodians, environmental techs serve a critical role in protecting patients and healthcare providers against infection. We count on them to clean and sanitize every area of the hospital from operating rooms to restrooms. No healthcare facility can function safely without a detail-oriented janitorial staff.
Facility Services Techs
Facility services technicians are sometimes referred to as maintenance technicians or central supply technicians. They ensure the hospital is functioning well by performing a wide range of building trades, maintenance, and repair tasks on hospital equipment systems. A great hospital maintenance team helps keep patients, staff, and visitors safe and comfortable.
Food Services
Hospital food services staff manage food orders, cook, and prepare the meals served to patients and employees. They ensure the menu has delicious, healthy options for patients with a variety of dietary restrictions. Dietary aides help patients order meals that best support their recovery and then deliver those meals throughout the day.
Linen Techs
Linen techs remove and replace used linens such as bedding, towels, and gowns from various hospital departments. They also ensure those linens are properly laundered and sanitized before reuse. Once clean, linen techs deliver fresh linen carts to each hospital department.
Patient Transport Escort
Another very important member of the hospital EVS team is the patient transport escort. Escorts ensure that patients are safely transported from hospital rooms to various departments for scans and medical treatments. They must carefully follow a schedule so patients arrive at the right place at the right time.
Supply Managers
Supply managers are logistics professionals responsible for reconciling the supply needs of various hospital departments, ordering and tracking inbound inventory, and maintaining accurate records of current supplies. They are also in charge of reporting supply discrepancies, resolving shipping issues, and documenting overstock return or damaged items.
EVS Workers in Demand
Covelo Group has seen a boom in demand for EVS workers across the country. An EVS job is one way to launch a successful hospital career with great pay and benefits, flexible hours, and seemingly endless opportunities for professional growth.
